6" Batman from the Classic TV Series by Mattel
Mattel brings us Batman from the Classic TV Series Adult Collector line.
Packaging :
The card art and design blends a modern feel with a classic look at the same time. The bubble has words used in the fight scenes from the show like BAM! POW!! WHAMM!! molded onto it. The back of the card has cartoon style art of Batman and the villains. The back of the card does not fit the feel of the 1966 show at all in my opinion and the renderings do not resemble the cartoon images seen in the show intro. I also dislike the new cartoon Batman font used for the character name.
Sculpt :
Mattel did a decent job capturing the likeness of Adam West. The boots, trunks, cowl and bib have wrinkles to resemble fabric. The belt has molded pouches attached to them. The only issues I have are the bib is much larger than the one worn on the show and the belt design is not accurate.
Paint :
The paint application is fairly good overall. I like the airbrushed dark greys used on the costume to resemble texture. The shiny silver paint applied over the bib, gloves, trunks and boots give the clothing a satin feel.
Articulation :
There are numerous points of articulation on this figure. There may be too many, old chum. The seams cannot be hidden the way the figure was designed.
Accessories : .
A trading card, stand and cloth cape are included. The art on the trading card is fantastic. The back of the cards have a part of the Batmobile and Batcave on the back of them. If you line a card from each figures card together, it will complete a Batcave backdrop. The stand with the classic POW!! on it works perfectly. The trading card case be placed on the stand and used as a backdrop. The cape had a little fraying on the top when I took it out of the package. I was a bit disappointed that a Batarang was not included.
Price :
$15.99 from Amazon was the best price I found.
The Verdict :
Like most fans of the 1966 series, I never thought this day would come. It took 47 years to have an officially licensed Adam West Batman figure produced. The figure isn't perfect, but is a must have for Adam West collectors. The positives outweigh the negatives and it is great for display and play.
